Electronegativity and Polar Molecules
Electrons in the bond between any two atoms of different elements are attracted more strongly to the atom of the more electronegative element, causing the bond to be polar. If the molecule as a whole is not symmetrical, there will be an overall dipole moment associated with that molecule which is described as being a polar molecule.
Polarity has a considerable influence on the properties such as the solubility of a compound in a given solvent and the uptake of drugs in the body.
