Waves |
| |
|
The wavelength (l), frequency (n) and velocity (v) of a wave are related by the equation:
v = l x n
The frequency is the number of waves passing each second. The wavelength is the distance from peak to peak (or from trough to trough). The
velocity is the distance travelled by the wave every second. The amplitude is the height of the peak.
Use the sliders below to investigate these properties of the wave. Click with your mouse to freeze the wave and show the definitions of the wavelength
and amplitude.
An applet is also available to demonstrate standing waves.
